“We are our choices. We exist in a world of infinite possibilities. Every choice we make shuts an infinite number of doors and opens an infinite number of doors. At any point we can change the direction of our lives by a simple choice. It’s all in our hands, our hearts and our minds.“
It’s amazing how often times we are faced with difficulties and challenging moments we work hard to find people to blame for our woes. It’s one explicit way to deny responsibility for our circumstances. I am a firm believer in our free-will as human beings and this relates to the fact that we decide what to do, when to do it and how to deal with the consequences of such actions. It’s all in us whether we embrace it or not except for some decisions that were made on our behalf during our formative phase of growth i.e. childhood. However, this doesn’t give you the freedom to relinquish control over your life because it is yours in the end.
I had a moment to watch an episode of the TV Series I am watching i.e. Power and as I had alluded to in my previous article, Ghost is the man to watch. It’s episode 5 Season 5 when he makes a mess of himself fighting everyone and everything that crosses his path as a way of grieving his daughter. The most magnificent turn of events that got me intrigued is the stream of questions the pastor who presided over Raina’s burial asks Ghost and his take on them in a sequential manner. That’s some form of self-discovery even though on his account of the narrative he is mad at everyone and accusatory in his approach he comes to a realization that it’s all in his control. Going to visit the love of his life I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
Watching through that section made me reflect on how we deal with the circumstances we face in life. We may not be able to control the situations we operate in but we have the upper hand in deciding how things turn out. By taking responsibility, reflecting on the choices that got us to our current situation we may course correct with ease. On the other hand, blaming others for our misery takes away our control leaving us with agony. Instead of doing a route cause analysis to redeem ourselves we head down the slippery road making more terrible choices and decisions which end up hurting us more.
Our lives may not be perfect but we have control on how we live it. We may not control our circumstances but we can choose how to respond to them. It’s a conscious decision to make consistent thoughtful choices that count in leading us to our ultimate freedom and happiness.
“Make good choices today so you don’t have regrets tomorrow.”
